Advanced model updates Ravens' projected win total

After winning 14 games on their way to the No. 1 seed in the AFC and with franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson taking NFL MVP honors, the Baltimore Ravens feel like they've opened up yet another window of title contention heading into 2020. Baltimore led the league in scoring offense and finished third in scoring defense in 2019 and the roster is deep and talented on both sides of the ball.

Now the Ravens will welcome back all but one starter after Michael Pierce signed with the Vikings during free agency. They did manage to sign long-time Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe to help ease Pierce's loss during a pretty quiet free agency period and then acquired Calais Campbell in a trade with the Jaguars to significantly improve the defensive front.

Which 2020 NFL win totals are way off? ... See every projected win total, including a shocking prediction for the Packers, all from a proven projection model that crushed its NFL win total picks last year!

And with 10 picks at the 2020 NFL Draft, the Ravens continued to follow the organizational script by using contract-controlled young talent to beef up their depth and land talent they can develop over time. In the first round, the Ravens landed LSU linebacker Patrick Queen, who is likely to plug in as a starter at middle linebacker. And third-round Ohio State linebacker Malik Harrison will also have a chance to jump into the starting lineup at weakside linebacker.

Offensively, the Ravens were able to land an electrifying backfield mate for Lamar Jackson with Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins in the second round. Jackson, Dobbins and Mark Ingram should keep the Baltimore rushing attack near the top of the NFL for years to come. And with their remaining seven picks, the Ravens did well to add depth at areas of need by drafting two wide receivers, two interior offensive linemen, two defensive linemen and a safety.

Now the Ravens head toward the 2020 season with a roster that is arguably better than the one that won 14 games a season ago. And while the Chiefs are the current favorites to win Super Bowl 55, the Ravens feel like it's championship or bust and after winning the AFC North by six games last year, Baltimore would love to continue to assert its dominance over one of the most physical divisions in football.

The SportsLine Projection Model predicts that the Ravens win an average of 11.9 games in the computer's 10,000 simulations of the 2020 NFL season, up from 11.7 projected wins prior to the 2020 NFL Draft. Baltimore wins the division 77.5 percent of the time and makes the playoffs 98.4 percent of the time. The Ravens are also currently 13-2 to win Super Bowl 55 according to William Hill, which is second-best odds in the NFL.
