76ers vs. Raptors Wednesday NBA injury report, Game 3 spread, odds: Gary Trent will play, Scottie Barnes might, Matisse Thybulle out

One very good defensive player could be out tonight on each side of 76ers at Raptors.

The Toronto Raptors were a chic pick to upset the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs after winning three of four regular-season matchups, but the Sixers easily held serve at home in the first two games, winning them by a combined 35 points. The series shifts north of the border for Game 3 on Wednesday and Philly will be without excellent defensive guard Matisse Thybulle, while Toronto will have Gary Trent Jr. in the lineup despite an illness but probably again without stellar rookie Scottie Barnes. The Sixers are -2 at Caesars Sportsbook. Click here for model picks.

Thybulle is not vaccinated for COVID – he got the first of two shots months ago but then decided not to get the second for personal reasons – so he won't be playing any games in or even traveling to Canada. That probably doesn't look like a major loss considering he has totaled just eight points and two rebounds in 29 combined minutes in the first two games.

That said, he is a defensive menace and Coach Doc Rivers has a thin bench as it is, and now you take out Thybulle. Without Thybulle, the door could open for Furkan Korkmaz to get back in the rotation. Korkmaz played three minutes in Game 1 and none in Game 2. Decent player who averaged 7.6 points in about 21 minutes per game in the regular season, starting 19.

Trent Jr. played through his non-COVID illness in Game 2 but actually hurt the team in the 112-97 loss, shooting 0-for-3 with four fouls and a minus-2 rating in his 10 minutes before being pulled. Trent was considered doubtful the morning of Game 2 but already has been cleared to start tonight so maybe he feels better.

Barnes, a Rookie of the Year finalist, was arguably the team's best player in Game 1 but had his foot stepped on in the fourth quarter by gigantic Joel Embiid and suffered a sprained ankle. Barnes, also a stellar defender, was never close to playing in Game 2 and is officially doubtful tonight – although he is out of a walking boot and "maybe" could return according to Coach Nick Nurse.
