2025 College basketball betting strategy: Fade bad defenses on road, says proven expert

Now that college basketball is into conference play, there are different betting strategies I use to find an edge. One is looking to go against teams that struggle defensively when playing away from home. 

Using advanced metrics is a great way to find an advantage in the betting markets. One benefit is identifying when a team is overvalued. Not all metrics are created equal heading into conference play. Some teams faced a much softer schedule that can skew the numbers.

A metric I look at closely once competition gets tougher is defensive efficiency. Teams that rank 70th or worse in defensive efficiency on KenPom can often be a good fade, especially on the road. It's hard to shoot the lights out every night away from home and if a team struggles to get stops, laying points on the road can be a losing recipe.
