2024 Louisiana Derby morning-line odds, picks, post time: Racing insider offers betting strategy for Saturday's Kentucky Derby prep race

The road to the Kentucky Derby begins its final phase on Saturday when 12 horses make their final start before the Run for the Roses in the 2024 Louisiana Derby in New Orleans. Lecomte Stakes winner Track Phantom is the 3-1 favorite in the 2024 Louisiana Derby odds. Smarty Jones Stakes winner Catching Freedom is next at 4-1 in the 12-horse 2024 Louisiana Derby field. Five other 2024 Louisiana Derby horses are 8-1 or shorter, while Next Level is the biggest longshot at 30-1. Post time for the $1 million race is 6:42 p.m. ET.

"He's another late runner and is a threat to hit the board, but I'm not convinced he should be the second choice in this field," Weir told SportsLine. Weir is using Catching Freedom only sparingly in his wagers.
