2023 Fantasy Football WR rankings tiers: Talent plentiful, but only a few truly elite options stand out

Receiver has become such a prominent part of Fantasy that oftentimes managers will make it the focal point of their drafts over running backs, especially in PPR formats where you may have as many as four spots available to use to start a receiver, including a flex slot. You may sometimes see managers go receiver for each of their first three picks and then play catch-up at running back confident that their teams have a high week-to-week floor thanks to receiving talent.

Receiver can also be the easiest position to find quality options in Fantasy free agency with how many are on the field at one time, which gives opportunity for a relative unknown to work his way into a big enough target share to be worth using in Fantasy lineups (see: Hodgins, Isaiah; James, Richie; Jones, Zay; and so on.)

Receiver also tends to have a less steep drop between tiers than other positions, particularly at running back as the draft gets past the initial rounds. The difference between a Tier 3 and Tier 4 receiver could be 10 targets, while the drop from a Tier 3 to Tier 4 running back may be 50 touches or more. While the pull is there to go big at receiver early in drafts, it's also the position where you can build the most quality depth in the middle rounds.
