The final tournament of the PGA Tour regular season is here, and there should be no shortage of drama at the 2022 Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. Will Zalatoris is the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 14. Meanwhile, well-known players like 2011 Wyndham winner Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler and Cameron Champ will be scrambling to stay in the top 125 or move up to qualify for next week's St. Jude Championship.
Zalatoris (16-1), Shane Lowry (16-1) and Sungjae Im (16-1) are the favorites in Caesars Sportsbook's latest 2022 Wyndham Championship odds. Simpson (18-1) and Billy Horschel (20-1) also are top contenders and the only others in the Wyndham Championship 2022 field priced at 20-1 or shorter.
Before you lock in any 2022 Wyndham Championship picks, be sure you check out the Wyndham Championship 2022 predictions and best bets from golf insider Patrick McDonald.
After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour.
He takes a measured approach to his outright selections and is up more than 52 units on those plays in 2022, having hit Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions, Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express, Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.
McDonald JUST missed on his longshot play at last week's Rocket Mortgage Classic, with 80-1 shot Taylor Pendrith battling for the lead all week until winner Tony Finau's dominant Sunday. The expert also pegged Pendrith as the first-round leader at 70-1, and the Canadian shared that honor with Finau after both shot 64 on Thursday. Pendrith ended up tied for second alongside reigning FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay .
And at the 3M Open the previous week, McDonald nailed both of his prop plays, taking Cam Davis as the top Australian finisher (+140) and Sahith Theegala to miss the cut (+275). He is up more than eight units on his PGA Tour props.
Now, McDonald has studied the 2022 Wyndham Championship field and locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. SHOCKINGLY, McDonald is fading Simpson despite his impeccable track record at Sedgefield. The North Carolina native is just not playing good golf, and while he might turn it around on one of his favorite tracks, it's not worth a wager at this price.
Instead, McDonald is targeting a longshot who come in at MASSIVE triple-digit odds! This golfer has had some injury issues, but has a high ceiling and is still showing a great short game. If he comes through with the SHOCKING victory, anyone who backs him would cash in HUGE! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before locking in any picks of your own!
So which 2022 Wyndham Championship players should you target or avoid? And which massive longshot is a MUST-BACK? ...
