2022 U.S. Open field, odds, picks: PGA Tour best bets and predictions from golf expert who loves the long shots
Jim Holliman, who has been around the game for more than three decades and has been nailing his golf picks, offers his best bets and winners for the PGA Tour season's third major in Brookline, Mass.
It's the third major of the season, and the the PGA Tour's top golfers are in for a stern test at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. The historic course's narrow fairways, elevation changes and tiny greens will make scoring tough, but an elite field is ready for the challenge. Defending champion Jon Rahm and 2022 Masters winner Scottie Scheffler are among those seeking another major title, along with the likes of multiple-major champions Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.  Â
Off the strength of his RBC Canadian Open win in Toronto on Sunday, McIlroy has risen to the 10-1 favorite in the latest 2022 U.S. Open golf odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Scheffler and PGA champion Justin Thomas are right behind at 12-1, with Rahm coming in at 14-1. Players champion Cameron Smith (20-1) also is among the favorites in the 2022 U.S. Open field, while Spieth and Collin Moriakwa are among a logjam at 22-1.
Before you consider any 2022 U.S. Open picks or make any PGA Tour predictions, you HAVE TO see what golf expert Jim Holliman has to say.Â
Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players' games fit the courses.
Holliman seems to have a knack for finding diamonds in the rough, and four of his top five picks for last week's RBC Canadian Open finished in the top 10. They included winner Rory McIlroy (9-1) and runner-up Tony Finau (25-1), and the longest shot among his picks, 65-1 Brendon Todd, tied for 13th!Â
At the Charles Schwab, he had both winner Sam Burns (28-1) and Davis Riley (45-1) among his contenders. Burns had missed two cuts in his previous four events, but was on fire Sunday and beat Scottie Scheffler in a playoff.Â
Before the PGA Championship, he touted Cameron Young, who came in at 65-1 and tied for third. And before the Wells Fargo, he backed winner Max Homa (40-1) and runner-up Keegan Bradley (35-1), and even had Stephan Jaeger (125-1) among his contenders as the German tied for sixth. Anyone who has followed Holliman's predictions is WAY UP!
Now, Holliman has released his confident 2022 RBC U.S. Open picks. SHOCKINGLY, the golf expert is fading defending champion Rahm. The blind shots and tiny, undulating greens are going to vex players, and the Spaniard's "emotions could get the best of him," the expert says. Add in the fact that the former world No. 1 is struggling around and on the greens, and he could have a lot of trouble at Brookline.
Instead, the golf expert is touting a long shot who comes in at around 40-1! This overlooked player hits it straight and is excellent at scrambling, and that combination should succeed at The Country Club. This golfer "he has all the skills he needs to succeed at Brookline," the expert says, and he could pull off a SHOCKING victory! Anyone who backs this underdog could cash in HUGE!
