2022 NFL Hall of Fame Game odds: Raiders open as favorites vs. Jaguars for exhibition opener

Yes, there are already odds on the first exhibition game of the 2022 NFL season.

Do you doubt that sportsbooks know how much American bettors miss the NFL already? The league announced the Jacksonville Jaguars would face the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 4 from Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio, and already some books have released NFL odds: Raiders -3 with a total of 34.5.

Not that you likely would bet on the Jaguars to win Super Bowl 57, but it might be wise to avoid the Raiders as well. Why? No team has won the Hall of Fame Game and the Super Bowl in the same season. The last team to win the Hall of Fame Game and reach the Super Bowl was the 2001 St. Louis Rams. Last season, the Steelers beat the Cowboys 16-3 in the game.

The NFL now schedules teams in the game who have players going into the Hall of Fame that weekend. Jaguars offensive tackle Tony Boselli will be enshrined as well as former Raiders receiver Cliff Branch and defensive lineman Richard Seymour.

The Hall of Fame Game will be the Jaguars head coaching debut of Doug Pederson and Raiders debut of Josh McDaniels, although both have been head coaches previously with other teams. McDaniels is from Canton and played his home high school football games for McKinley High at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium when the facility was known as Fawcett Stadium.

Jacksonville and Las Vegas will be allowed to open training camp before any other team due to playing in the Hall of Fame Game and will have one additional exhibition game (four each). The first game in Jaguars franchise history was the 1995 Hall of Fame Game, which they lost 20-14 to Carolina. Jacksonville hasn't been back. The Raiders are 3-0 in this game, last playing it in 2006.

If you are wondering why the total is so low for the Hall of Fame Game, it's because no starters play and it's usually ugly offensively. There hasn't been at least 40 combined points scored since 2013.

Las Vegas does visit Jacksonville in the 2022 regular season – it's possible that game is in London, though.
