The PGA Tour playoffs are here, and the world's top golfers will face a stern test at TPC Southwind in the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship. The track in Memphis, Tenn. is knows for its tight fairways and water lurking everywhere. The St. Jude Championship field is led by Scottie Scheffler, the world's top-ranked player who sits atop the FedExCup standings. He is being chased by elite golfers like British Open champ Cameron Smith, who is more than 1,200 points behind in second place, and PGA winner Justin Thomas (eighth). Reigning FedExCup champion Patrick Cantlay is fifth in the standings, and other top stars in this elite field include Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and U.S. Open champ Matt Fitzpatrick.

McIlroy, playing for the first time since a disappointing T-3 at the British Open, is the 11-1 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook's latest 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship odds. Scheffler (14-1), Smith (16-1), Cantlay (18-1), Rahm (18-1), Thomas (18-1) and Xander Schauffele (18-1) are all among the top contenders in the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2022 field.

Before you lock in any 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship picks, be sure you check out the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2022 predictions and best bets from golf insider Patrick McDonald.

After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour.

He takes a measured approach to his outright selections and is up more than 50 units on those plays in 2022, having hit Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions, Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express, Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.

McDonald took a risk last week at the Wyndham Championship in fading Sedgefield Country Club ace Webb Simpson, who had nine top-10's in 13 appearances. Simpson had a rough week and was 2-over and headed for a missed cut before he withdrew.

McDonald JUST missed on his longshot play at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, with 80-1 shot Taylor Pendrith battling for the lead all week until winner Tony Finau's dominant Sunday. He also pegged Pendrith as the first-round leader at 70-1, and the Canadian shared that honor with Finau.

Now, McDonald has studied the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship field and locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. SHOCKINGLY, McDonald is fading Burns even though he lost in a playoff here last season. The three-time winner this season has been on a serious cold streak, and the expert doesn't see it getting better this week.

Instead, McDonald is targeting a longshot who come in at MASSIVE triple-digit odds! This golfer is at his best when iron play is the name of the game. He should keep his unpredictable driver in the bag and SHOCK anyone who is fading him for that. If he comes through with a stunning result, anyone who backs him would cash in HUGE! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before locking in any picks of your own!
