2022 Beijing Winter Games odds: Olympics expert releases pick for USA-Canada women's gold-medal hockey game

Olympics expert Mike Tierney cashed big on the 2016 and 2020 Summer Games and 2018 Winter Games, and he has a pick for the women's gold-medal hockey game between the United States and Canada on Wednesday

The United States look to reign supreme in the Winter Games for the second straight time when it faces off against Canada in the women's hockey gold-medal game on Wednesday at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The Americans ended Canada's string of four consecutive gold medals by defeating their northern neighbors 3-2 in a shootout at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.

The Canadians are 1.5-goal favorites in the latest Canada vs. U.S. odds at Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total goals scored is 5.5. The game is scheduled to begin at 11:10 p.m. ET.

Before locking in any Beijing Olympics 2022 picks or predictions, you need to see what SportsLine's Olympics expert, Mike Tierney, has to say. (Head over to SportsLine's 2022 Olympics page for more analysis and updates.)

A national sportswriter whose work appears in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Tierney has covered nine Olympic Games in person. For Rio in 2016, Tierney profited big-time. He told readers to bet Over on Team USA's gold medal count (41.5) and Over on Team USA's overall medal count (102.5). The result? 46 golds, 121 medals and two easy cashes.

For the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Tierney hit two of his three predictions: Germany (+200) to win the most gold medals and the United States winning Under 10.5 gold medals (+110). And at last year's Tokyo Games, he correctly predicted the United States would go Over 111.5 total medals (-110).

Now, Tierney has analyzed Wednesday's gold-medal game from every possible angle and locked in another confident pick. You ABSOLUTELY need to see what it is before locking in any picks of your own.

    Tierney's pick and analysis:

    Women's hockey, gold-medal game
    Canada vs. U.S.
    (11:10 p.m. ET Wednesday)

    Under 5.5 (-167)

The list of results in gold-medal matchups between these rivals is sprinkled with low scores, which is reflected in the pricy odds. The enmity between them, which has been heightened lately, leads to grinding games. The United States takes a so-so scoring efficiency percentage into the championship contest, in part owing to the absence of star center Brianna Decker (broken leg.) Although Canada downed the Americans 4-2 in the preliminary round, it mounted just 27 shots. Whichever team reaches three goals should triumph.
