2021 Sony Open: Expert reveals his rankings from the PGA Tour field for your fantasy golf picks

Uncanny golf expert Rick Gehman releases his top 30 players for this week's event at Waialae Country Club

It's the first full-field event of the calendar year when the 2021 Sony Open tees off on Thursday at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.

William Hill Sportsbook lists Webb Simpson and Collin Morikawa as the co-favorites at 14-1 in its latest 2021 Sony Open odds. Other contenders in the 2021 Sony Open field include Sentry Tournament of Champions winner Harris English (16-1), Daniel Berger (20-1) and Hideki Matsuyama (22-1).

Before setting your Fantasy golf lineups or betting this tournament, you NEED to see data scientist Rick Gehman's power rankings.

With his expansive database of golf statistics, course data and betting odds, Gehman creates advanced models and back-tests them constantly. These models have produced 12 outright winners in the past year -- including 30-1 Webb Simpson at the 2020 RBC Heritage.

At the Masters, Gehman was locked in on Dustin Johnson, listing him as his second choice and noting that he "looked like he's ready to make a run at the green jacket." The result? Johnson ran away with the tournament, shooting the lowest score in event history at 20 under to win by five strokes!

Two other golfers in his top six had top-five finishes, with Justin Thomas finishing fourth and Rory McIlroy tying for fifth. Anyone who followed Gehman's advice cashed in!

The previous week at the Houston Open, Gehman listed Johnson and Tyrrell Hatton as his top two players, and both finished in the top seven. Johnson battled for the lead throughout the final round before settling for a tie for second at 11 under, while Hatton shot a final-round 65 to finish 7 under.

Now, Gehman has ranked his top 30 players for the 2020 Sony Open, and he is expecting Morikawa to make some noise at Waialae. The PGA Championship winner tied for seventh last week, and he led this event after the first round last year before fading to a tie for 21st. He should feel more comfortable this year, and the 23-year-old could get on a roll.

On the other hand, Gehman is fading Matsuyama, who has struggled notoriously with the putter but is near the top of the list, according to oddsmakers. He lost nearly 10 strokes to the field on the greens last week, and he is too much of a wild card to bank on for your Fantasy lineup. He barely cracks Gehman's top 20!

Instead, Gehman is promoting a veteran who comes into the event at around 50-1! This grinder has quietly developed into an excellent player and is one of the better golfers in this field. He had one brilliant  round at Kapalua, and this could be the week he puts it all together! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before betting this tournament or entering any Fantasy golf lineups.
