2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year odds: Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger

Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is among the favorites at William Hill sportsbook to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has never been averse to injuries here and there as Big Ben has played all 16 regular-season games just four times in his illustrious career. However, he was limited to a career-low two last year and thus is a top candidate to win 2020 NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors. Big Ben is the second-betting favorite for the award at William Hill, priced +350 on the moneyline (win $350 on $100 wager).

With his two Super Bowl rings and two passing yardage titles, Roethlisberger is going to Canton five years after he retires. It's actually not all that unusual for a future Hall of Fame quarterback to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Drew Brees did in 2004 with the Chargers, Tom Brady did in 2009 with the Patriots and Peyton Manning was the winner in 2012 with the Broncos.

One Steeler has won this award: Quarterback Tommy Maddox in 2002. Frankly, Maddox only had two good seasons in his NFL career, coming in 2002 and then the next year. Roethlisberger was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2004 draft and took over as the starter, with Maddox relegated to backup duty.

Big Ben injured his elbow in a Week 2 home loss to Seattle in 2019 that ended his season and required surgery. He started throwing again in late February and last month said he was "throwing without pain for the first time in years." Thus, he should be fine when/if training camps start.

Roethlisberger is 38 years old and under contract through the 2021 season. His cap charge for the 2020 season was set to be a whopping $33.5 million, but he and the team restructured the deal in March.

In a bit of a surprise with Big Ben's age and injury history, the Steelers have shown no interest this offseason in signing a veteran backup like Jameis Winston or Cam Newton despite both Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges struggling in relief in 2019.

    Ben Roethlisberger +350
