2020 Belmont Stakes picks: Horse racing authority not backing Tiz the Law

Horse racing insider Richard Eng, who was all over longshot Sir Winston last year, just revealed his 2020 Belmont Stakes picks.

The 152nd Belmont Stakes runs on Saturday with Tiz the Law as the 6-5 favorite. Post time is 5:42 p.m. ET. Before you bet such a high-profile race, you NEED to hear what legendary horse racing handicapper Richard Eng has to say.

Eng was the turf editor and handicapper for the Las Vegas Review-Journal for 20 years and literally wrote the book on wagering on the sport. He's the author of "Betting on Horse Racing for Dummies," the preeminent book for newcomers. This is the same handicapper who was higher than almost everyone on Sir Winston at last year's Belmont Stakes, writing: "Sir Winston ran a fast speed figure when second in the Peter Pan, which is the local Belmont Stakes prep race. He is trained by Mark Casse, who is the trainer of War of Will. There is an old saying in horse racing that when any trainer has two runners in the same race uncoupled, you better pay attention to the longer-priced animal. Sir Winston fits the 'MO' of many past Belmont Stakes winners at huge odds."

The result: Sir Winston (10-1) swung around two horses down the homestretch and won a stunning Belmont Stakes, finishing ahead of heavy favorite Tacitus. Thus, Eng turned a $40 exacta box into $960. Sir Winston had opened at 12-1 and went off as the fifth choice on the odds board; anyone who followed Eng's advice cashed big.

The year before, Eng was all-in on Justify when that horse was a HUGE 100-1 longshot in the Kentucky Derby Futures Book, before the horse made his racing debut. Eng picked Justify to win all three Triple Crown races, cashing big each time.

Now, Eng has released his 2020 Belmont Stakes picks, predicting every horse's exact finish.

One HUGE shocker: Eng is not picking Tiz the Law to win, saying trainer Barclay Tagg's horse will go off at odds of 4-5 or even lower. Tiz the Law also drew the less-than-ideal No. 8 post position in the 10-horse field.

Instead of Tiz the Law, Eng is eyeing a colt with "a similar pattern" to Sir Winston, a horse with an impressive pedigree that's on the third race of his "form cycle." That means the Belmont Stakes is his third race following a layoff, a scenario, insiders say, that often translates to peak fitness! This is Eng's long shot Belmont Stakes winner, and if the horse hits like Eng expects, you'll be looking at a MASSIVE payout.
