The second major of the PGA Tour season is here, with the 2023 PGA Championship teeing off Thursday morning at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. World No. 1 Jon Rahm and red-hot Scottie Scheffler are neck-and-neck for the world's top ranking and the top spot in the FedEx Cip rankings. They also were in a dead heat as +700 co-favorites in the outright winner odds available at Caesars Sportsbook in the run up to the tournament, but by Wednesday afternoon, Scheffler had edged ahead, coming in at +650 with Rahm right behind at +700.

Rory McIlroy has been in a lengthy funk since winning the CJ Cup to open his PGA Tour season in October. The Northern Irishman then went overseas and posted a top-five finish at the DP World Tour Championship before winning the Dubai Desert Classic. McIlroy has finished outside the top 25 three times and missed two cuts, including the Masters, in seven outings since returning to the States in February. Still, he is one of a handful who have played this course before, tying for eighth at the 2013 PGA Championship. He is the +1200 third favorite at Caesars.

Last year's PGA Championship at Southern Hills featured a wild finish, and Justin Thomas ended up winning his second PGA title. He trailed by seven strokes entering Sunday but matched the day's best round with 67. Then Mito Pereira imploded on the final hole, closing with a double-bogey to fall one shot short. Thomas birdied the first two holes of the three-hole aggregate playoff to beat Will Zalatoris.

Thomas has just two top-10 finishes this season and has tumbled in the PGA Championship outright odds. "I've never felt so far and so close at the same time," Thomas told CBS Sports. "That's a very hard thing to explain, and it's also a very hard way to try to compete and win a golf tournament." Ten days ago, Thomas was +1600 at Caesars, behind only Rahm, Scheffler and McIlroy. Now, he is +2800, behind nine other golfers.

Four players seeking a first major title are also near the top of the PGA Championship 2023 odds board at Caesars Sportsbook. Patrick Cantlay is just behind McIlroy at +1600, along with four-time major winner Brooks Koepka. Xander Schauffele (+1800), Tony Finau (+2000) and Cameron Young (+2500) also are looking for a major championship breakthrough.

Along with Koepka, Dustin Johnson (+2500) and Cameron Smith (+2800) are the top representatives from LIV Golf. Johnson lifted the trophy for that tour's event in Tulsa on Sunday. Jason Day, who got his first PGA Tour victory in more than five years at last week's Byron Nelson, is alongside Thomas and Smith at +2800.

Jordan Spieth, seeking the final piece of the career grand slam for the sixth time, is a +4000 longshot after pulling out of the the Byron Nelson with a wrist injury.

Full odds to win the 2023 PGA Championship from Caesars Sportsbook are listed below.
