Today's picks: Why the Rays will beat the Orioles, plus more MLB for Monday, July 25
The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Monday, July 25, on The Early Edge podcast
Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Allan Bell and Larry Hartstein on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball for Monday, July 25.
Coach kicks things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day: The Giants (-130) to beat the Diamondbacks in the opener of their three-game series (9:40 p.m. ET). "The Giants are 66 percent to the good straight up as a road favorite," he says. "Arizona, 31-42 as an underdog this season. Translation? We'll play the Giants on the money line."
Jonathan follows with two plays of his own. The first is the Royals (-110) to defeat the Angels in the opener of their three-game set (8:10 p.m. ET). "The Angels won yesterday 9-1 (against Atlanta), but they had lost five straight before that," he says. "Noah Syndergaard is a shadow of his former self. He's on the mound tonight for the Angels. This is just a great spot. I'll take Zack Greinke to hold them to one or two runs. We'll take a 4-2, 5-2 win, cash that easy."
Coach's second play is the Astros (-1.5 runs at -125) to cover against the Athletics as they begin a three-game series (9:40 p.m. ET). "(The Astros) are the best team in baseball right now," he says. "The A's are the worst. Enough said."
Hartstein is up next with his play. He likes the Rays (-115) to beat the Orioles in the opener of their four-game set (7:05 p.m. ET). "They have owned the Orioles - 14-5 in their last 19 games at Camden Yards, 47-17 in this matchup," Larry says. "Corey Kluber, a veteran, should be completely rested. He hasn't pitched since July 17, I think he'll know how to handle that break. … I really like the Rays in the second half. I know they didn't get it done in Kansas City (over the weekend), but this is a great matchup for them."
Bell wraps things up with The AB Pick 3. His first play is the Braves (-1.5 runs at -110) to cover against the Phillies when they begin their three-game series (7:05 p.m. ET). "Yeah, (the Braves) got whooped by Los Angeles (on Sunday), but they've got Max Fried," he says. "They're 73 percent straight up in his starts this season. The Phillies, a mere 33 percent straight up as a home underdog. If the Braves are going to win this game, it's going to be by more than one run."
Allan's next play is the Red Sox (-110) to defeat the Guardians in the opener of their four-game set (7:10 p.m. ET). "I saw what happened this weekend, but those games only happen to the Red Sox when they play the AL East, which they have not won a series (against) all year," he says. "But they're out of the AL East, they get the Cleveland Guardians coming to Fenway. The Red Sox are a perfect 3-0 versus Cleveland this season. The Guardians are 13-18 as a road underdog."
Bell's final play is Over 8.5 runs (-115) in the Rockies-Brewers four-game series finale (8:10 p.m. ET). "We played this three days in a row and it has crushed," he says. "All three games have hit nine runs or more. Yesterday, we were nervous, it was at nine - a tough number. They came in at 19 runs."
