NFL: Tom Brady puts Massachusetts home up for sale

Tom Brady's new contract allows him to become a free agent in the 2020 season. Coincidentally, he and his wife just put their Massachusetts home up for sale. The timing of those events is just that – a coincidence, the iconic New England Patriots quarterback said Monday. Brady told a local radio station that observers shouldn't draw a link between his pending real estate transaction and his future in professional football.

"You shouldn't read into anything. I think it takes a long time to sell a house. My house is a little bit of an expensive one, so it doesn't fly off the shelf in a couple weeks," Brady told the "The Greg Hill Show" on WEEI.

"I think I'm at a point in my life where there's a lot of considerations that go into playing. I have a very busy professional life, I have a very busy personal life. Any decision that's made has to consider everything. I'm certainly at a place where I've been in the same place for a long time, and I love playing for the Patriots."

The 42-year-old quarterback emphasized his desire to play until at least age 45. He told the radio show he feels strong mentally and physically as he heads into his 20th NFL season.

"I think I'm in a great mental, emotional place to approach the season," he said.

As part of his new deal, the Patriots agreed to not place the franchise tag on Brady after this season. The quarterback said the move doesn't necessarily mean he wants to consider other teams, but also declined to elaborate on the motivation behind this stipulation.

"Those are some personal feelings, and there's a lot of personal conversations I've had that really aren't for other people's knowledge," the six-time Super Bowl winner said. "I think what this is about is this season and dealing with this year. Beyond this year, whether it's signing five more years, or signing a franchise tag, or not playing, none of those things needed to be decided this year."

Coming off a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, the Patriots are currently 6/1 co-favorites with the Kansas City Chiefs to hoist the Lombardi Trophy this season.
