I was late in getting the best number, but I still believe this Under hits. Alabama has given up just 30 points in three games since the Texas loss. And Texas A&M has a defensive line laden with five-stars who are capable of dominating the point of attack. The Tide's downfield passing attack is still lacking. This will be a defensive battle. First to 20 points wins.
I would LOVE to be wrong on this and have Alabama all but eliminated from CFP contention before mid-October. But that simply doesn't happen under Nick Saban, who no doubt will make this a bit personal with the Tide losing their last game in College Station and Saban's running feud with former assistant Jimbo Fisher. Doubt I play this if Aggies starting QB Connor Weigman hadn't recently been lost for the year. Alabama does have terrific special teams this year and that truly could be the difference. A&M's Ainias Smith also provided a bit of bulletin board material this week. Half unit.
Jimbo Fisher is not losing much with grizzled QB Max Johnson no real drop-off from injured Conner Weigman, with Max having tossed 44 TDP vs just 8 picks in his college career with the Ags and LSU. And keep in mind that Jimbo has given his old mentor Nick Saban fits the past two seasons, even winning outright at Kyle Field in 2021. But the Tide looks to be switching gears after a pair of romps past Ole Miss and MSU with Saban’s defense starting to assert itself and QB Jalen Milroe finding his sweet spot in the Tommy Rees offense by passing roughly16-22 times per game, completing better than 80% the past two weeks while also using his legs to escape the pocket.
Texas A&M won the last time Alabama visited and those were stout Bama squads. They also covered last season in Tuscaloosa in a 24-20 loss. The main reason I took the points here besides Jimbo Fischer reminding them who they play all week is that Texas A&M has the better defense and the better offense coming in. When has that happened? Alabama also has a gun shy QB with Jalen Milroe who is afraid to throw due to the wrath of coach Nick Saban. I could argue Texas A&M should be favored here based on the point value of the hostile Kyle Field environment creating chaos for Milroe and the offense. I’m on Texas A&M.
