SEC play is suddenly hitting Vandy like a cold slap in the face, as Mark Byington's go-go Commodores are now learning what can happen without sufficient frontline presence in such a rugged loop. Byington is reluctant to dial back tempo, work the shot clock, or grind...all things that can get you beat in the SEC, which has now happened three straight for Vandy. Perhaps Byington catches a break as MSU has struggled, too, but Chris Jans is more willing to play a halfcourt game. Still, Jans might need high-scoring G Josh Hubbard (21.7 ppg) to snap an 8-for-30 FG slump the past two games to have a better upset chance. Play Mississippi State
