After a 13-point loss at Hofstra on Monday night, Norfolk State must endure some odd scheduling -- a lunchtime tip at Baylor. The Bears have obliterated four similar foes at home by margins of 37, 63, 31 and 29 points. Their lone loss in seven home outings is to Tennessee, which ascended to the No. 1 ranking this week. The difference in scoring average between the opponents is vast; Baylor ranks 26th in points per game, Norfolk 190th. The Bears have taken case of business in past meetings with the Spartans, winning four times by an average of 30.5 ppg.
Note the early tip-off in Waco in what is a rematch of a 2022 Big Dance first-round matchup (top regional seed Baylor 85-49), but expect MEAC contender Norfolk State to be wide awake later this morning. Better MEAC teams not always completely overmatched in high-profile intersectionals and the Spartans have some credentials after winning the CIT last spring. A big addition for HC Robert Jones has been ex-Murray State G Brian Moore, scoring at 20 pg for NSU, while sixth-year G Christian Ings (13,.3 ppg) was a key cog in the postseason run last March. Motivationally, might be more concerned on the Baylor side after the Bears (recently dropped four straight vs. the spread) have already faced five ranked teams. Play Norfolk State
