Clemson has nation's longest streak of 115 straight games without back-to-back losses

Clemson's football team hasn't lost back-to-back games since 2011 – the longest such streak in the nation.

Dabo Swinney's Clemson Tigers entered last season's College Football Playoff national championship game vs. LSU on a 29-game winning streak but as a 4-point underdog. Top-ranked LSU and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow essentially had home-field advantage at the Superdome in New Orleans and won the battle of Tigers 42-25. It's still not clear against which opponent Clemson will open the 2020 season against in a coronavirus pandemic, but it will carry a national-best streak of 115 straight games without back-to-back losses into that one.

The last time the Tigers lost back-to-back games was in 2011 when current quarterback and Heisman Trophy +400 second-favorite on the William Hill moneyline odds Trevor Lawrence was 12. Tajh Boyd was Clemson's quarterback then and the Tigers lost Nov. 19 at NC State (37-13) and the next week at South Carolina (34-13). That team finished 10-4 overall following a 70-33 embarrassment vs. West Virginia in the Orange Bowl.

Clemson has lost just 12 times straight up since the 2012 season – including bowl games -- and is 65-42-2 against the spread over that span, a cover percentage of 59.1; a couple of games vs. FCS opponents did not have point spreads.

The Tigers have lost multiple games in a season just once since 2015 and that was in 2017. They were upset 27-24 at Syracuse on Sept. 23 (Clemson's last ACC defeat) and then beaten in the College Football Playoff semifinal 24-6 by Alabama.

Also since 2012, Clemson has been an underdog 17 times and is 9-8 straight up and 12-5 ATS. The Tigers are projected to be double-digit favorites in every regular-season game this year. They are scheduled to open at Georgia Tech on Sept. 3 as around 24-point favorites, but the entire ACC schedule is up in the air with the league expected to shift to a conference-only slate and likely adding an additional conference game for each school.

Clemson is a +225 favorite at William Hill sportsbook to win the national title and -600 to win a sixth straight ACC title.
