Today's picks: Patriots-Falcons best bet, plus more NFL, college football and NHL plays for Thursday
Jonathan Coachman is joined by proven sports betting experts Allie O'Neill, Mike McClure, Allan Bell, and Larry Hartstein on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get prime plays for the NFL, college football and NHL for Thursday, Oct. 18., and you can stream the show live every morning on the SportsLine YouTube page.
Mike opens with an in-depth examination of Under trends in the NBA. Allan tells us why we should be looking ahead to a certain prop play in Texans-Titans. Larry takes a look at the Lions' highly concerning QB situation.Â
The Coach supplies the SportsLine Play of the Day, highlighting Louisville -20 over Duke at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Cardinals appear to be a "well-oiled machine" while the Blue Devils have just been bad on both sides of the ball.Â
Mike is taking the Patriots and Falcons Under 9.5 points in the first quarter at 8:20 p.m. ET. "The Patriots have Damien Harris back, Rhamondre Stevenson is going to be in there, it's going to be a time share for sure. They're going to look to run the football early and often," he says. "Cordarrelle Patterson likely being out for the Falcons is definitely going to limit things. Wayne Gallman and Mike Davis will be handling the running back duties for Atlanta. I don't expect them to have much success early in this one."
Allan provides a trio of Week 11 NFL plays, including the Dolphins and Jets Under 45 points on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. He says it will be a "hideous" game to watch, especially with an aggressive Miami defense facing Joe Flacco. He is also taking the Cardinals and Seahawks Under 49 points on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Both teams have star quarterbacks that may not perform up to expectations because of recent injuries. Allan's final pick, the Bills - 7 over the Colts at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, sparks the Coach and Larry to engage in a three-way SportsLine Showdown.Â
Allan says Carson Wentz is going to have a very tough time against the Buffalo defense on the road. Larry officially submits his selection of the Bills to join in with Allan. He cites multiple key injuries for the Colts. The Coach, however, is confident in Indianapolis and the stage is set for the SportsLine Showdown of two versus one.Â
In the NHL, Allie is going with the Penguins -150 over the Canadiens at 7 p.m. ET. Both teams have been bad, but Montreal has been worse than Pittsburgh. The Penguins do have Sidney Crosby back and should have enough to prevail against the Canadiens' goaltending.Â
