It's Carolina's first road game of the season, and that matters a little. Also note it's the front end of a back-to-back. Pittsburgh might have a goaltending controversy as No. 1 Tristan Jarry has been awful and relative unknown backup Joel Blomqvist is 2-1 with a 2.86 GAA and .913 SV and could be stealing the job. He's in there tonight. The Pens are 2-0 this week and scored six goals in each game. Pittsburgh is 9-4-2 in its past 15 at home vs. Carolina and eight of the last 11 games between the teams overall have been one-goal games. That's all I'm looking for here.

The Pens are scoring enough goals...the problem has been on the defensive end. The stats of goalies Tristan Jarry and Joel Blomqvist suggest as much, with a combined 4.20 GAA and .878 saves. Pittsburgh, however, is tallying 4 goals pg itself, with Evgeni Malkin off to a flying start with 11 points into the weekend. Thanks in part to a postponement of last week's game at Tampa Bay, Carolina has only played two games (as opposed to five for the Penguins). Though the Canes looked just fine in their last game, a 4-2 win over the Devils. The new man to watch, rookie Jackson Blake, scored his first NHL goal in the win over New Jersey.
