Bad news for Big Blue: Giants have most short-week road games in 2020 NFL season

The NFL schedule-makers did the New York Giants no favors in one regard for the 2020 campaign.

The New York Giants were an awful team last year in finishing 4-12, their third straight season missing the playoffs. Quarterback and franchise icon Eli Manning retired, and Coach Pat Shurmur was fired. He was replaced by the fairly anonymous Joe Judge. Frankly, this is an anonymous roster overall other than running back Saquon Barkley. Big Blue isn't expected to be very good in 2020, either, as they have an Over-Under win total of 6.5 at William Hill sportsbook – with the Under a -120 favorite.

Yet, the Giants have three prime-time games scheduled. That's simply because they are the New York Giants, the most popular football team (sorry, Jets fans, but it's true) in the country's biggest media market. The Giants are always going to be a prime-time staple simply for that reason.

However, the NFL schedule-makers really did a massive injustice to the Giants this year as they lead the league with three short-week road games. For what it's worth, the Giants were 2-2 against the spread last year with a rest disadvantage.

New York opens on Monday, Sept. 14, vs. the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers, who are early 3-point favorites on the NFL odds in Ben Roethlisberger's return from injury. Then, the Giants have to travel to Chicago for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Week 2.

In Week 6, the Giants host the Washington Redskins but then turn around and play Thursday night at the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. As if Philly needs any more help in this series, winning seven in a row (3-4 ATS).

Finally, the Giants host Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday in Week 8 and then visit the Redskins in a 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Week 9. It's the first time in the 51 years of Monday Night Football that the Giants will host a pair of games in a season.
