2020 Super Bowl 49ers vs. Chiefs odds: Money starting to flow on San Francisco

Kansas City remains the favorite for Super Bowl LIV, but San Francisco is starting to see more action.

Depending on the sportsbook, the Kansas City Chiefs are either 1-point or 1.5-point favorites on the NFL odds over the San Francisco 49ers for Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2 in Miami. No book has seen the line rise to -2 yet (as of Wednesday morning ET) other than one offshore, and some of those books offer contrarian odds simply to draw media & betting attention.

DraftKings has the Chiefs at -1.5, and the latest update from the book has Kansas City taking 67 percent of all spread bets. However, San Francisco is now getting 78 percent of the handle. To simplify: The Chiefs are taking a lot more wagers at smaller numbers, while the 49ers are taking the bigger bets. To be fair, that handle number is likely skewed by one bettor on Tuesday dropping $684,000 on the Niners at +2 – buying a half point. Should San Francisco cover, that would return $601,920 (less than the original wager because of buying that half-point).

The total remains 54 on the NFL odds but that could rise at any time because books all over the country (some offshores have it at 55) are reporting mega-action on the Over. At DraftKings, 96 percent of the handle is on the Over and 90 percent of all wagers on the total on the Over.

Finally, Kansas City is -122 on the moneyline (must bet $122 to return $100) and San Francisco +108 ($100 wager returns $108). A total of 55 percent of the moneyline handle is on the NFC champion and 63 percent of all moneyline bets. It's not uncommon for a short favorite on the spread to take a lean but then a short underdog to do so on the moneyline as some bettors are hedging.
