Like to think I evolve a little bit as a bettor every new major sports season. In the past, I'd probably just go ahead and do -185 on the ML here to avoid a push, but I don't trust the Saints that much. So I'll accept the last 3 on our board at nearly 70 cents cheaper in New Orleans' home opener. Maybe the Who Dats are pretty good, nearly winning Week 1 in Detroit and then doing so Week 2 in Baltimore. It's the first roadie for the Raiders. Model has NO by eight.
Saints second-year QB Tyler Shough has put himself among the elite passers through two games this season. He's No. 1 in completions per game (31) and No. 2 in yards per game (305). He's helped the Saints score 27 points per game. Shough has been the main reason for the Saints being 2-0 ATS. He shined against the Lions and the Ravens. His start is ready for TV: an NFL Films rising-star story. It's exciting for the Raiders, Las Vegas, and Kirk Cousins, but this game in New Orleans is all about the Saints. It's been a while since Saints fans had Drew Brees to root for. Almost the same here.
Ashton Jeanty has had one great game (102 yards) vs Dolphins and a quiet game against the Chargers (48). Jeanty has played 77.2% of the Raiders' offensive snaps through two games while accounting for 79% of the backfield carries and an 83.8% opportunity share. The Saints have allowed Jahmyr Gibbs to rush for 156 and 2 TD, and Derrick Henry had 68 and a TD last week. They rank 27th in EPA allowed per rush and 26th allowing 136.5 rush yards per game.
Ashton Jeanty didn't have a strong rushing performance this past Sunday. Not even close to his Week 1 performance, in which he rushed for 102 yards and 4.4 yards per carry. I think he's in a great bounce-back spot this week against the Saints. The Saints have given up 4.8 yards per carry in the first two weeks. Yes, that was against Jahmyr Gibbs and Derrick Henry. But Jeanty is in the same class as those running backs. He has 44 carries the first two weeks, and I expec the Raiders to keep feeding him in this matchup.
This is a really high number, but I think it's warranted given the looks Olave has been getting from Tyler Shough. Through two games, Olave has 18 receptions on 23 targets for 268 yards (50%+ air yard share). These numbers require some context, as a lot of the production was in comeback mode in both Week 1 and Week 2. With that said, Shough's passing yards prop is at 250+ so it does appear he'll be airing it out against a Raiders secondary that has faced the Dolphins and the dysfunctional Chargers. Look for a big game from Shough this week and look for a lot of his production to go through Olave.
Ashton Jeanty had a quiet Week 2 performance against the Chargers but I’m extremely bullish on his season outlook and love this matchup against the Saints. Jeanty is a usage monster and is the clear focal points of a suddenly competent Raiders offense. He plays a Saints defense that ranks 27th in EPA allowed per rush inside a dome in optimal conditions. This game projects to be competitive and Jeanty should see another huge workload. I have a lot of confidence in Klint Kubiaks offense.
Brock Bowers is tentatively expected to play Sunday against the Saints in what could be a high volume passing environment. Considering this is a discounted line, I’m willing to speculate and I expect Bowers to be heavily targeted in what is likely to be his season debut. The Saints are an optimal opponent because of their willingness to engage in a shootout. Bowers is likely to see 10-12 targets in what should be a high scoring affair.
