Understanding Public and Money
Expert Picks
I’ve watched Penn play and I’m less impressed than the general public. He has missed wide open receivers and ultimately this is Robinson’s team. Unless they run a higher percentage of place than projected or he hits a big downfield throw or two I think he’s under this number.
The Falcons will throw everything but the kitchen sink at the Panthers as they need a win and a very unlikely Saints win over the Bucs to steal the NFC South, otherwise it's home of the offseason after this game. Rookie QB Michael Penix has flashed some upside the past two games, and worth noting that even a Kirk Cousins-led Atlanta scored 38 on the Panthers in the first meeting back on October 13. Bryce Young, however, has thrown at least one TD pass in every game he has started for Carolina since re-entering the starting lineup on October 27 at Denver, and Carolina is 7-2 over since. Play Panthers-Falcons Over
Bijan Robinson has more than 90 yards rushing in five straight games and has done that in 9 of 16 games. Now he faces one of the worst run defenses the NFL has seen in years. With the Falcons still alive for a division title (albeit needing an unlikely Tampa Bay loss), look for Robinson to see around 20 carries, which should be plenty to push him over 100 yards on the ground.
They finally took the handcufs off this kid last week ad he was amazing. Even under duress at Washington. Bad snaps and all. I expect this to be a high scoring game and Carolina might be able to do enough to keep the pressure on. He was great in the RZ and on 4th down last week and CAR has allowed 33 passing TDs, most in the NFL. They've allowed 11 in the last 4 games and have been gutted by NFC South opposition all season.
The Panthers rank dead last at stopping the run and have allowed 5.7 yards per carry over the past three games. In those contests they have allowed 202, 206 and 211 rushing yards to the Bucs, Cardinals and Cowboys respectively. Linebacker Josey Jewell (concussion), defensive end A'Shawn Robinson (neck) remained out of practice Wednesday. With the Falcons still alive for the NFC South title, look for Bijan Robinson (90 or more rushing yards in five straight games) to get a heavy workload in this dream matchup.
The Falcons offense looks to be in a better spot with Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback, but the defense couldn't stop a strong Washington run game last week. That shouldn't be an issue here with Chuba Hubbard sidelined, as Carolina had a season-low 39 rush yards last week. Bryce Young has improved as a passer but shouldn't be expected to carry the offense in a matchup with a Falcons team fighting for a playoff spot. Consider teasing Atlanta as well to fade a garbage-time Carolina score, with Pittsburgh being a strong option.
Michael Penix looks like the real deal to me, and the ATL defense is still pretty soft and even without Chuba Hubbard running the ball I expect Bryce Young to put up some points. Falcons wasted too much time not playing Penix and will show him off vs a bad D here. These teams are 9-1 to the over in division; ATL NFCS games average 53.6 points and CAR avg 54.2. These two produced 58 points in the first meeting and Falcons will be fighting for a shot at the division and both will want to build confidence in their very young QBs and showcase them into the offseason. Panthers 5-2 over on road and the dome crowd will be great for Penix.
