The Seahawks played above their ceiling last week and got every break imaginable in order to prevail in the Russell Wilson Bowl, but this game should bring them back to Earth. The 49ers weren't impressive in their slop-filled loss to the Bears but they should have a sense of urgency to see some results behind Trey Lance at QB and their defense should make for a long day from Geno Smith.
Grading a team that loses outright as a big road favorite is one of the common overreactions when assessing spreads. This is boosted even more after Week 1 of the NFL season. San Francisco played in poor conditions in Chicago and still is bringing along inexperienced QB Trey Lance. Expect the game plan to be more successful at home against a divisional opponent in the Seahawks.
The 49ers enter this one off an upset loss in Week 1 to one of the league's worst teams, while the Seahawks pulled off an upset win against their longtime starting QB. It seems that result is causing this line to move toward the Seahawks, and at 8.5, I'm jumping on the other side. Maybe Trey Lance will end up being terrible, but I don't think we can take anything away from the extreme weather conditions he endured in Week 1. I trust Kyle Shanahan is a good enough coach to maximize Lance's talent. Seattle was fortunate to beat Denver and now is without Jamal Adams on defense. Love throwing 49ers in a teaser on this number, but willing to play it straight as well.
