The 49ers were gifted a win last week by Jameis Winston, while the Bengals played Seattle tough and covered easily. Early in the year, Andy Dalton and the Bengals have been money lately. The new coaching staff has given Cincy a much-needed spark and I like the Bengals in their home opener.
The Bengals offense looked much better than expected last week, but I contend they are going to have issues on the offensive line all year. The strength of the 49ers defense is their front, with Dee Ford, Nick Bosa and DeForest Buckner wreaking havoc. The 49ers did not look impressive on the offensive side last week, and Cincinnati actually has a pretty solid defense. I like that we're off the key number of 45, and I'm hopping on the Under and expecting a physical game where both defenses have the edge.
What we saw from the Bengals offense last week wasn't a fluke, though I wouldn't expect to see Andy Dalton throwing for over 400 yards every week. They'll continue moving the ball and putting points on the board, however. The 49ers offense is better than it showed against Tampa last week. We'll have a bit of a mini-shootout on hour hands here.
The schedule-maker dealt the 49ers a weak hand to start the season by sending them to the Eastern time zone for the first two games. They did easily cover at Tampa Bay but were on the losing end ATS in the previous four roadies. Cincinnati has rolled to five ATS wins consecutively after coping well with Seattle’s noted home-field advantage in a one-point loss last Sunday. The first impression of Bengals new coach Zach Taylor’s offense: thumbs-up. San Francisco must lean on backup RBs with Tevin Coleman (ankle) on the mend.
