The VIkings' defense has given up 27 or more in three consecutive weeks, one of those to the Bills. The Eagles may not be rolling the way they were a year ago, but Alshon Jeffery and Jay Ajayi are healthy, and they also have Corey Clement ready to play. Oh, and there's that Carson Wentz guy. Philadelphia is playing at home and doesn't have to worry about stopping the electric Dalvin Cook. As is usual with my late picks, I'm not getting the best line here -- and the hook may come back to haunt me -- but I still feel comfortable with Philly covering four.
The Eagles stomped the Vikings last year with their backup QB when the stakes couldn't be any higher. Now that Carson Wentz has a couple starts under his belt, I like their chances to do it again. The Vikings defense has been a shell of its former self, ranking 25th in DVOA and 29th in net yards per attempt. The Eagles also don't have to respect a run offense that's averaging 3.5 yards per carry and has the worst DVOA in the league. The Eagles D-line should feast against a Vikings O-line that's had major issues to date, and that's the difference in this matchup.
Neither of these teams are playing at the level we saw them last year, but at the moment, my biggest concern with either of them is the Vikings defense, as well as its offensive line. That's where I see Philly having the major advantage over the Vikings in this contest, and 3 points just doesn't seem like enough.
Two excellent defenses in this ballgame. Granted, it's a little bit tougher to say that about the Vikings coming off of the game against the Rams, but they are still sound nonetheless. The Eagles have been a bit more consistent there, even down to Jalen Mills giving up big plays on the backend. All joking aside, this game will be ultimately decided along the lines of scrimmage. And on both sides of the ball, the matchup favors the Philadelphia Eagles.
It's a rematch of last season's NFC Championship Game as the Vikings head to Philly once again in a huge contest. But unlike January's tilt, the Eagles find themselves a 3-point home favorite rather than underdog. Having played with the Redskins, Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins knows a thing or two about the Birds, but my projections show the Eagles putting together a very strong performance on Sunday that covers 60 percent of the time. Take the Eagles.
