The Colts' defense has been more than respectable. It's asking a lot of Carson Wentz, in his first start, to lead Philly to a resounding win without Alshon Jeffery, Jay Ajayi, Darren Sproles and Mike Wallace available. Grab the points.
After last week I improved the Indy defense by four points but still have them ranked in the bottom third of the NFL. Philadelphia will start Carson Wentz, an upgrade of two points for the Eagles. Wentz and Pederson want the offense to go fast, giving us more plays and helping the game get over the total. Philly's defense has been far from the one we watched win the Super Bowl, as it is allowing 529 yards per game.
The Eagles get Carson Wentz back under center, as he's coming off of an ACL and LCL injury late last season. His game is predicated on his ability to move and escape pressure, so I worry about the rust from that aspect, considering he just got cleared for contact this week and will be playing in a regular season game. Colts HC Frank Reich definitely knows this Eagles team and its personnel really well. I don't feel as though the Eagles offense will hit the ground running with Wentz back in the fold. It's going to take some time.
Carson Wentz is back, but the Eagles are overvalued at home against Andrew Luck and the Colts. My simualtions make the Eagles -5 favorites with both teams dealing with injuries. Philadelphia will be without Jay Ajayi and the Colts will be without Jack Doyle. Wentz is a great player, but give me Andrew Luck +7.
These two teams are dealing with a ton of key injuries on offense. The Colts have ruled out RB Marlon Mack, TE Jack Doyle and LT Anthony Castonzo, while the Eagles are down RB Jay Ajayi and RB Darren Sproles but also have RB Corey Clement, WR Alshon Jeffery and LT Jason Peters listed as questionable. I expect Carson Wentz to be a bit rusty in his first game back, especially with his options limited at receiver. Expect this one to be a low-scoring game.
