76ers vs. Nuggets Monday NBA injury report, odds, props: Joel Embiid questionable for potential MVP showcase vs. Nikola Jokic

Two of the NBA's leading candidates for MVP could face off in Denver if Joel Embiid suits up for the 76ers

There are just under two weeks remaining in the 2022-23 NBA regular season, and the MVP race hasn't been decided. That race could become a bit clearer depending on what happens Monday when current Caesars Sportsbook betting favorite Joel Embiid (-225 to win MVP) and the Philadelphia 76ers visit two-time winner Nikola Jokic (+175) and the Denver Nuggets, who are 5-point home favorites.

A few weeks ago, Jokic had a comfortable lead as the betting favorite as he looked to join Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Larry Bird as the only players to win three straight MVPs. However, the Nuggets lost four straight games from March 8-14 and Jokic relinquished to the top spot. He is no longer averaging a triple-double, albeit barely, at 9.9 assists along with 24.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.

Jokic did get a bit of an MVP boost over the weekend when the Nuggets routed Giannis Antetokounmpo (+300) and the red-hot Milwaukee Bucks. Jokic had 31 points, 11 assists and six boards in that MVP matchup for his 55th double-double.

This concludes a four-game trip for the Sixers, during which they're 1-2 following a 125-105 loss in Phoenix on Saturday. Embiid had 28 points and 10 rebounds and continues to lead the league at 33.3 points per game. Embiid was listed as questionable for Saturday with right calf tightness. He's listed similarly Monday, but it's highly unlikely he would miss this matchup.

That said, he did admit a one-game break is coming following the defeat: "I'm going to need one [game off] pretty soon," Embiid said. "It's two things. Like I said, it's all about [being healthy] for the playoffs. You know, like tonight, I was very sloppy. Usually when I'm sluggish and sloppy that means I'm tired. Like you said, I've been playing a lot of minutes, I've been playing every single game. So to add to that, dealing with the calf and whatever the foot, I think at some point you gotta look at the bigger picture, which is the playoffs, obviously."

When Denver visited the City of Brotherly Love on Jan. 28, Embiid was clearly fired up after learning he wasn't originally named among the Eastern Conference All-Stars and had 47 points, 18 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks in the Sixers' 126-119 comeback win. Jokic finished with 24 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.

There are no props up for Embiid yet tonight, while Jokic is +139 for a triple-double and -194 to not register one.
