William Hill bettor wagered more on Amanda Nunes for UFC 250 than Nunes earned

One bettor at William Hill sportsbook put down $1 million on Amanda Nunes for UFC 250.

Two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes cemented herself as the greatest female mixed martial arts fighter of all-time with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Felicia Spencer at UFC 250 in Las Vegas on Saturday night to defend her featherweight belt. The judges scored it a lopsided 50-44, 50-44 and 50-45 with Spencer a bloody mess by the end.

Nunes, the first fighter in UFC history to have defended two titles in two weight classes while still holding them both, reportedly earned a $450,000 purse for the fight, which included a $100,000 win bonus. One bettor at William Hill sportsbook dropped a $1 million wager on Nunes to win at -600 on the moneyline odds.

That was the largest wager on an MMA fight in the 86-year history of William Hill – while gambling has been legal for only a couple of years across the USA, William Hill has been overseas for that long. It was such a big wager that it shifted Nunes from -600 at the time to -650.

The bettor made the wager in one of William Hill's physical sportsbooks in Nevada and it returned $1,166,666.70. It was the first MMA event since Nevada sportsbooks had reopened from the coronavirus pandemic.

It was Nunes' 11th straight victory, tied for the second-longest active win streak in the UFC (male or female) and the longest ever by a female in the organization. Most believe Nunes will next fight either Megan Anderson or flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.

Nunes already has beaten Shevchenko twice, but their last meeting in September 2017 was a split decision and some observers thought Shevchenko won. Nunes said she's not likely to fight again in 2020, though. Nunes is expecting a child with her wife, UFC strawweight Nina Ansaroff, later this year.

There's a Fight Night card this Saturday from Las Vegas. Check back at SportsLine for MMA picks.
