Toronto starter Yariel Rodriguez was a pleasant surprise in April, but then he landed on the DL with back inflammation. His return didn't go well, as the Guardians knocked him out in the second inning (after 52 pitches) on June 21. Houston strikes out at the second-lowest rate in MLB. Look for Rodriguez to go Under on his K prop.
The Blue Jays have won three of their past five and split with the Yankees in a spirited performance. They look changed for the better. They've turned the corner to a better baseball life. And that means that they go over the total with no trouble, at least that's the case for the last eight games. Their season total now is 3.99 runs a game with the highest it's been all season. But the Astros have won 9 out of their last 10 and are now 41-41 right at .500 for the first time this year. Yariel Rodriguez lost his last start giving up five runs. Astros are going to score. Just the over.
Not sure Toronto should be excited about the recent activation of Yariel Rodriguez, who couldn't get out of the second inning against Cleveland on June 21, allowing five runs (four earned) and walking three in a disastrous return. Next up are the red-hot Astros, who have climbed above .500 for the first time this season by winning nine of their last 10 and cooling off the Mets over the weekend. Note that Hunter Brown has been the AL's hottest pitcher the past three weeks, winning each of his last four starts while allowing just one run and 16 hits across 25 innings over that span.
The Astros have won nine of 10 to suddenly get above .500. In each of their wins during the streak, they have scored at least four runs. In Monday's lone matinee, they may not need as much run insurance as pitcher Hunter Brown has dominated with just one run allowed over his last four starts. He might be named AL Pitcher of the Month for June.
Houston's Hunter Brown was one of the best pitchers in baseball in June but tough spot here for the Astros after having to wait out about a three-hour rain delay in the ninth inning in New York on Sunday before winning in 11 innings and using much of the bullpen -- and then traveling for a quick turnaround in a Monday matinee. Brown is 2-3 with a 5.87 ERA on the road and 0-3 with an 8.14 ERA in five afternoon starts this year. There will be a big crowd if you think such things matter betting wise (they certainly don't hurt the home team) on the Canada Day holiday.
Houston has won nine of 10, each by multiple runs. Despite Kyle Tucker's absence, the lineup in its best form all season. Toronto is bracing for a deadline sell-off. Toronto starter Yariel Rodriguez has a 5.94 ERA and just got crushed for four earned runs in 1.1 innings last time out. Toronto's bullpen is in tatters. At home, the Jays are 15-26 against the run line. Houston's Hunter Brown has figured it out, sporting a 1.16 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in June with 36 strikeouts in 31.1 innings.
This has all the makings of a let down spot for Hunter Brown who has been terrific over his last seven starts, however is facing a tough matchup against the Blue Jays in Toronto. Brown has struggled pitching outside of Houston where he sports a bloated ERA of 5.87. The Jays have one of the stingiest lineups in the league as well.
We've been backing Hunter Brown consistently throughout the month of June, but like all good things, they must come to an end. Brown has reeled off an impressive streak of seven consecutive quality starts. While Brown's recent results are certainly impressive, they've largely come against subpar opposition with quality starts streak opponents having a combined record of 256-333. Brown also possesses some drastic home versus road splits and has struggled pitching outside of Houston.
