Today's top picks: Why the Cardinals will beat the Brewers, plus more MLB, PGA Tour and NHL best bets for Thursday, April 14
SportsLine's proven experts share their favorite bets on the Early Edge podcast for Thursday, April 14

Host Jonathan Coachman is joined by Mike McClure, John Bollman and Allie O'Neill on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get highlighted plays for Major League Baseball, NHL and golf for Thursday, April 14, and you can stream the show live every morning on the SportsLine YouTube page.
John has a key storyline on MLB, pointing out that Wednesdays and Thursdays are "underdog days," with teams wrapping up series and tending to rest some key players. He recommends playing close attention to the lineups and going with some underdogs but keeping your risk low.
Coach kicks off the picks with two SporsLine Plays of the Day. The first is a UEFA Europa League pick from "Buckets" Jon Eimer, who is backing both teams to score (-130) in the Lyon vs. West Ham match (3 p.m. ET on Paramount+). Then, Matt Severance is on the NHL, taking the Flames -160 to beat the Golden Knights in Calgary (9 p.m. ET).
Mike has an MLB pick, and he is looking at the drastic weather change in the Cubs vs. Rockies matchup (8:40 p.m. ET). He is backing Colorado -0.5 for the first five innings (+110) as Chicago comes in from Pittsburgh, and the altitude change in Denver really affects how the pitches behave. "It's going to be difficult for (the Cubs) to pick up and see the baseball," McClure says, "at least in the first time through the order."
Allie also is on MLB, and she is taking the Angels -145 to beat the Rangers (8:05 p.m. ET), with Shohei Otani taking the mound for Los Angeles. Texas is countering with Dane Dunning, who had an ERA more than 2.5 runs worse than Ohtani last season.
Coach jumps in with his PGA Tour bet on the RBC Heritage, which starts Thursday in Hilton Head Island, S.C. He likes Collin Morikawa -120 to beat Cameron Smith in a first-round matchup at Harbour Town.
Bollman is back on baseball, and he is backing St. Louis +130 against the Brewers (5:14 p.m. ET). Milwaukee is just back from Baltimore, so it has a quick turnaround. The opening-day festivities for the Brewers' first home game also could be a distraction. The Cardinals were rained out Wednesday, so their bullpen will be rested, while Milwaukee had to use its top three relievers in each of the past two games. The Cards were 11-8 against the Brewers last season but 7-3 in Milwaukee. "I think the wrong team is favored today," John says.
