Today's top picks: Why the Braves will cover against the Nationals and more MLB and Olympic basketball expert bets for Saturday, Aug. 7
The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Saturday, Aug. 7, on The Early Edge podcast
Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Allan Bell and Justin Perri on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball and women's Olympic basketball for Saturday, Aug. 7.
Coach starts things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day: Team USA (-18.5) to cover against Japan in the gold medal game of women's basketball (10:30 p.m. ET). "[The Americans] kind of slept walked through their group play, didn't do much," he says. "They beat this same team by 17 during one of those sleep walk nights, but they're wide awake now. They're going to pound Japan."
Perri has three picks, all from Major League Baseball. The first is Over 8.5 runs (-120) in the Braves-Nationals game (7:20 p.m. ET). "Truist is one of the best hitting parks in baseball," he says. "Wind is going to be blowing out. Air density is going to be low. This is those hitting conditions that we love to talk about that we've been profiting off of all year."
He also likes Over 9.5 runs (-120) in the Mets-Phillies game (4:05 p.m. ET). "I'm really not too thrilled with the Phillies pitching staff right now," he says. "They're going to go with Ranger Suarez, who used to be their closer. Now he is like an opener; he is not going to pitch too many innings, which means we're going to get an extended look at their bullpen."
Perri's final play is the Dodgers (-140) to cover the -1.5 run line against the Angels (9:10 p.m. ET). "Julio Urias has been very consistent," he says. "Jaime Barria has not exactly been that great."
Bell's pair of picks also comes in MLB. The first is the Braves (-120) to cover the -1.5 run line against the Nats. "[The Braves] have won four straight by an average of four runs per," he says. "The Nationals are 1-5 to start the month of August."
Bell closes things out with the A's (-125) to cover the -1.5 run line against the Rangers (4:07 p.m. ET). "[The A's] have only given up 2.4 runs per in their last seven games," he says.
