Today's sports betting picks: Why the Dodgers will beat the Giants, plus more MLB and NFL best bets for Monday, Aug. 1

Jonathan Coachman is joined by sports betting experts Zack Cimini, Allie O'Neill and Larry Hartstein on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball and the NFL for Monday, Aug. 1.

Coach starts things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day: The Panthers (+1) to cover against the Browns in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season (Sept. 11, 1 p.m. ET). 

Cimini is up next with an MLB play. He likes the Dodgers (-136) to beat the Giants in the opener of their four-game series (9:45 p.m. ET). "You look at that series when the San Francisco Giants swept the Dodgers (at home in June), it was a completely different Dodgers team at that time," Zack says. "I look at their more recent series, post All-Star break at home against the Giants, they were on fire. They beat the Giants by the run line or greater in all four games. They're just producing great right now. They scored an average of six runs in the past series against the Colorado Rockies, hitting up and down the lineup. I don't think that's momentum that the Giants can stop."

Coach jumps back in with a pair of MLB plays of his own. The first is the Orioles (+1.5 at -150) to cover against the Rangers in the first contest of their three-game set (8:05 p.m. ET). "It's a little juicy for me, but the way that the Orioles are playing and the fact that the Rangers just had, I think, a hard-fought series in Anaheim, …," he says. "Both teams had to travel, we get that. But I think with the Orioles, you give me 1.5, the juice is most definitely worth the squeeze."

His second play is Over 8 (-101) in the Red Sox-Astros three-game series opener (8 p.m. ET). "The pitching matchup in this one, I really, really like it," he says. "For some reason, because (Nathan Eovaldi) had a couple of good years, the sportsbooks still like him. He's been getting rocked all season long."

O'Neill follows with another MLB play. She likes the Mets (-1.5 at -130) to cover against the Nationals as they begin a three-game set (7:05 p.m. ET). "(Max) Scherzer has been phenomenal. And he won his first start of the season against the Nationals," Allie says. "Patrick Corbin, he's been terrible. The Nats have lost (his last five) starts, and they've also lost three straight versus the Mets, who covered the run line in all of those. Even though (Scherzer) is a little bit better at home, I just really don't think the Nats are going to be able to stop the Mets, who have now won six in a row."

Hartstein wraps things up with one play, also in Major League Baseball. He likes the Mets (-0.5 at -155) to cover over the first five innings versus Washington. "Patrick Corbin has been a disaster in his last four starts - 16 ⅔ innings, 20 earned runs," Larry says. "In three starts against the Mets this year, the WHIP is over 2.00, the ERA is over 6.00. In 13 innings, 20 hits, eight walks - a disaster. Max Scherzer, five starts since coming back from the oblique (injury), 32 ⅓ innings, only five earned runs, 45 Ks and four walks. He just blanked the Yankees, should've gotten that win, (but) the bullpen blew it. I think he records a win tonight and I think the Mets jump on them early."
