Today's sports betting picks: Why David Montgomery will rack up receiving yards, plus NBA, NHL and soccer best bets for Monday, Oct. 24

The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Monday, Oct. 24, on The Early Edge podcast

Jonathan Coachman is joined by sports betting experts Jon "Buckets" Eimer and Larry Hartstein on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for the NFL, NBA, NHL and soccer for Monday, Oct. 24.

Coach starts things off with two SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first is in the NHL: The Senators (-105) to beat the Stars (7 p.m. ET). "The Senators are a perfect 100% straight-up at home so far this season," he says. "I know it's early, but they haven't lost (there) yet. In fact, Ottawa has won three straight and scored 18 total goals during that span."

The second Play of the Day is in the NBA: The Celtics (-6) to cover against the Bulls (8 p.m. ET). "Zach LaVine, he's been injured. He is the best player for the Chicago Bulls," Coach says. "So we're going to roll with the Eastern Conference team that made it to the Finals last year."

Eimer is up next with a pair of plays in soccer. First, he likes both teams to score (-135) in the match between Goteborg and AIK in the Swedish Allsvenskan (1:15 p.m. ET). "The Swedish League is basically just a German baby league," he says. "They play the exact same style of aggressive soccer with high attack and non-existent defense. Goteborg has hit BTTS in their last five matches, while AIK has scored in their last 11 matches and will be missing three of their starting four defenders."

Jon's second play is Under 2.5 goals (-120) in the English Premier League match between West Ham and Bournemouth (3 p.m. ET). "These teams are both terrible right now," he says. "West Ham is one of the only Premier League teams that is averaging less than a goal per game across their competitions this year. On top of that, they're playing in the Europa League and are playing three games alone this week during this congested schedule, and they have World Cup-caliber players that aren't trying right now.

"They're hosting a Bournemouth squad whose stats are a little skewed right now because they had a historic loss against Liverpool back in August in which they lost 9-0. Since then, their coach has said, 'We don't care if we win, we're just never losing like that again.' So they don't play attacking ball at all. They sit back, they lock things down and they play for 0-0 draws."

Coach follows with a play in the NBA. He likes the Nuggets (-5) to cover against the Trail Blazers (10 p.m. ET). "The Portland Trail Blazers just beat (the Lakers) yesterday in an afternoon game, which Jalen Rose once told me was the worst thing you can do to an NBA player, is give them an afternoon game on a Sunday. And that's what they did," he says. "Then they had to travel back home and play tonight against the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets just beat the Warriors. They're really, really good."

Hartstein wraps things up with a pair of prop bets. First, he likes Over 11.5 receiving yards for Chicago's David Montgomery (-110) in the Bears-Patriots matchup on Monday Night Football (8:15 p.m. ET). "(Khalil) Herbert does not really get targeted in the passing game, it is Montgomery," he says. "He's averaged 2.5 targets in the four full games he's played. He went Over it in all four games, had a massive day - 62 receiving yards - against the Vikings when they were in comeback mode. They should be in comeback mode against the Patriots, who give up the 10th-most receiving yards to running backs at 40 receiving yards per game. We just need 12, we probably only need one catch to get there, but I think we could get two or three catches."

Larry's second play is in the NBA: Over 5.5 assists for Toronto's Fred VanVleet (-130) in the Raptors-Heat game (7:30 p.m. ET). "Same matchup with the Heat that we saw a couple of days ago. What did VanVleet do? He played 39 minutes," he says. "He's done that in all three games this season - 38, 39 and 39. They need him on the floor all the time. His assists have been five, nine and 10. Scottie Barnes hurt his ankle, probably not going to play tonight for the Raptors. That's another creator type that won't be out there. … VanVleet should play 40 minutes, should get six assists."
