Host Jonathan Coachman is joined by sports betting experts Emory Hunt, Chip Patterson and John Bollman on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for college football, Major League Baseball and soccer for Friday, Sept. 9.
A huge AL East series begins in the Bronx tonight as the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays (-110) visit the Yankees. John is on the Rays at -110 behind Drew Rasmussen: "Rasmussen is coming off the paternity list -- could have some Dad power? -- and has a 1.85 ERA in his past seven starts. The Yankees' Frankie Montas pitched well vs. the Rays in his last start, but Tampa is 19-8 in its past 27 games and has a huge bullpen advantage. New York is playing essentially a Triple-A lineup with so many injuries."
Top-ranked Alabama visits Texas in what should be the most-wagered game of Saturday. Chip likes the Tide giving a whopping 20 points: "Alabama will be able to choose its number in this game and I don't think Nick Saban has any inclinations of shutting things down even if the Crimson Tide get a comfortable lead. This 2022 team is trying to establish the kind of edge that will carry them to a national title and the opponent, which does have the potential to be explosive offensively, and the hostile environment will have Alabama keeping the foot on the gas for all four quarters."
Emory, who also likes Bama to cover in Austin, has a double on UNLV at Cal with the Rebels +13 and Over 50.5 points: "UNLV has probably its best team yet under Coach Arroyo. The Rebels can throw the football down the field with Doug Brumfield, an excellent QB, and two dynamic wideouts Ricky White and Kyle Williams who will find holes in that Cal secondary. UNLV will keep this tight and maybe even sprinkle Rebs on the moneyline."
