Today's picks: Why to take Brewers first five innings over Cardinals, plus more MLB, NFL preseason and PFL picks for Thursday, August 19

Matt then talks about the release of the AP Preseason Top 25, and he is skeptical about Notre Dame. Larry points out why there is much love for the Detroit Lions in the NFL preseason. 

Three SportsLine Plays of the Day are issued by the Coach. He is all in on Taylor Guardado -190 over Mariana Morais in PFL 8. In MLB, he is backing the Mariners -140 over the Rangers at 2:05 p.m. ET. Seattle is rolling and Texas just needs to get out of the way. He also endorses the A's and White Sox Over nine runs at 2:10 p.m. ET. Oakland is surging on offense. 

Allie reveals her debut pick on the Early Edge, taking the Brewers in the first five innings at -0.5 over the Cardinals at 7:45 p.m. ET. Milwaukee was able to prevail on Wednesday despite Jack Flaherty being on the mound for St. Louis. "I really think if they were going to drop a game in this series it would have been yesterday," she says. "Jon Lester has a 5.32 ERA and Brandon Woodruff has been able to able to maintain that 2.18 ERA throughout the season. He is going deep into games, compared to Lester, who has kind of been out by the fifth inning every time." 

Matt is on the Diamondbacks and Phillies to go Under 8.5 runs at 3:40 p.m. ET. This will be a tremendous pitching matchup between top Cy Young contender Zack Wheeler and Madison Bumgarner. In NFL Preseason, he is riding with the Eagles +1.5 over the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. ET. Matt reveals a New England preseason trend that strongly supports the selection. 

Larry's featured prop play is Jorge Lopez Under 4.5 strikeouts in Orioles-Rays at 1:10 p.m. ET. Lopez has gone Under the number frequently in his recent starts.
