Jonathan Coachman is joined by top betting experts Allie O' Neill, Matt Severance, Allan Bell and Larry Hartstein on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get prime plays for the NFL, MLB playoffs and college football for Friday, Oct. 8.
Matt begins to look ahead to the NHL regular season and says he will fading the Pittsburgh Penguins. They are dealing with significant injuries and the goaltending is average. Allan reveals some unique trends on rookie QBs. Larry points out that Carson Wentz does not handle the blitz like he used to, and that could be a problem against Baltimore.Â
Allie is taking the Rays in the first five innings at -130 over the Red Sox in Game 2 of the ALDS at 7:02 p.m. ET. Chris Sale has not fared well in recent postseason starts. Tampa Bay can prevail if Shane Baz keeps the ball in the park.Â
Matt shares a trio of plays, leading with the Brewers -153 over the Braves in Game 1 of the NLDS at 4:37 p.m. ET. Milwaukee has a starting pitching edge and its bullpen certainly provides an advantage. In college football, he is going with Temple +30 over Cincinnati at 7 p.m. ET. The Bearcats are coming off a big win and may suffer a letdown vs. the Owls. in the NFL, Matt is on the Steelers as a pick 'em target vs. the Broncos on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Denver is not as good as its record indicates and Pittsburgh desperately needs the win.Â
Allan's top selection is from the super Sunday night NFL matchup, as he is taking the Bills +2.5 over the Chiefs at 8:20 p.m. ET. "The Bills offense can go toe to toe with the Chiefs offense, and it might even be better," he says. "The Bills have the best scoring defense in the NFL. The Chiefs have the worst scoring defense in the NFL. I understand it's going to be at Arrowhead and it's going to be loud. But the Bills know that if you win at Arrowhead in October, then you don't have to play there in January." Allan highlights some trends that further support his pick, but he also draws a SportsLine Challenge from the Coach, who is riding with Kansas City.Â
Larry's MLB pick is the White Sox Over 3.5 runs in Game 2 of the ALDS vs. the Astros at 2:07 p.m. ET. Chicago has seen Framber Valdez twice this season and the White Sox certainly are a good choice vs. lefties.Â
