Today's picks: Why the Pacers will cover against the Timberwolves, plus more NBA, NFL and college basketball for Sunday, Feb. 13
The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Sunday, Feb. 13, on The Early Edge podcast
Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Mike McClure, Allan Bell and Larry Hartstein on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for the NBA, NFL and college basketball for Sunday, Feb. 13.
Coach starts things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day, which comes in the NBA:Â the Pacers (+4) to cover against the Timberwolves (3 p.m. ET). "The Pacers lost some players at the trade deadline. So what?" he says. "They like to score, Minnesota doesn't like to play defense."
McClure is up next with a cross-sport prop play. He likes Los Angeles' Van Jefferson to have more receiving yards in the Rams-Bengals matchup in Super Bowl LVI (6:30 p.m. ET) than points scored by Atlanta's Trae Young (-120) in the Hawks-Celtics NBA game (2 p.m. ET). "Looking at a good game scenario from Trae Young, we're talking 30-35 points in this spot. I like Van Jefferson to have the upside to hit that number pretty easily. I know he hasn't been great recently, but I like this spot for him," Mike says. "Trae Young is listed as questionable. He's going to end up playing here, he is dealing with a hip injury. Definitely something that is significant for someone who plays the way that he does."
Bell follows with a cross-sport prop bet of his own. He likes Young to make more 3-pointers than the Bengals' total touchdowns scored (-120). "He is questionable. That means that Trae Young is probably not going to take it to the rack as many times as he normally does," he says. "He might settle for those outside 3s, and that's what we're banking on. So the number that we need to get to is essentially four, five. I don't see the Bengals going for nine touchdowns today."
Allan also has two bets for those playing Super Bowl squares. He likes Rams 7, Bengals 0 (+310) and Rams 0, Bengals 7 (+450) for any quarter.
Hartstein wraps things up by continuing the theme with a cross-sport prop bet. Larry likes the Boilermakers' made 3-pointers +1 in the Purdue-Maryland college basketball game (1 p.m. ET) over the Bengals' first-half points in the 2022 Super Bowl. "The Bengals' first-half total is sitting at 10. I think Purdue can get 11, 12 (3-pointers), then we get the +1," he says. "So this actually works with my game script, which is I believe that the Rams' defense is going to come out and definitely have a very strong first half. The Terrapins are 12th in the 14-team Big Ten in terms of 3-point percentage allowed (35 percent). Purdue leads the Big Ten at 40.5 percent in making their 3s."
