Today's picks: Why the Chargers will cover vs. 49ers and more NFL, MLB and EPL expert bets for Sunday

Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Allan Bell, Justin Perri and Larry Hartstein to dish out picks on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for the NFL, Major League Baseball and English Premier League for Sunday, Aug. 22.

Bell kicks things off by breaking down the storylines to know in the NFL preseason, including Unders going 22-8 so far through nearly two full weeks of action. Hartstein highlights the new additions set to make picks for SportsLine in the fall, including The Late Kick Podcast's Josh Pate and NFL props guru "PropStarz," whose featured content debut on SportsLine is coming up this week. Hartstein wraps up by sharing one of PropStarz's top season-long props involving Odell Beckham Jr.

Coach then steers the show toward the experts' picks for Sunday, starting with three featured picks from the SportsLine site. He begins with sharp soccer bettor Martin Green's pick to win in Chelsea-Arsenal, then heads to the MLB to pick a winner in Braves-Orioles. Coach wraps up with a longshot play on the Rangers, but their game with the Red Sox has since been postponed due to inclement weather.

Bell fires next with NFL picks on both of today's preseason games. For starters, he's taking the Giants +3 in the first half against the Browns (1 p.m. ET) after they were unable to score until the fourth quarter last week. Bell believes coach Joe Judge will make getting off to a hot start a priority. He then pivots to Chargers-49ers (7:30 p.m. ET), saying the value lies with backing the Chargers +5.5 in what should be a low-scoring game. Coach backs up that play with some insider knowledge about Los Angeles' preparation in the game.

Perri turns the attention to MLB picks, backing the Blue Jays -1.5 against the Tigers (1:07 p.m. ET), with the Jays having a decided pitching advantage as Steven Matz squares off with Drew Hutchinson. Perri is also going with the Reds -140 at home against a terrible road team in the Marlins (1:10 p.m. ET).

Hartstein closes the show by going back to Braves-Orioles and playing Atlanta starter Touki Toussaint to go Over 4.5 strikeouts (-135). Toussaint has gone over that total in five of his six starts and is facing a team that strikes out a ton. He then is following an industry play by taking Tampa Bay starter Chris Archer Under 5.5 strikeouts in his return from the injured list as the Rays square off with the White Sox (1:10 p.m ET).
