Today's picks: Why Juan Soto will win the Home Run Derby, plus more MLB, soccer and NFL futures for Monday, July 18
The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Monday, July 18, on The Early Edge podcast
Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Zack Cimini and Jon "Buckets" Eimer on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball, soccer and NFL futures for Monday, July 18.
Eimer kicks things off with a pair of soccer plays. The first is in Poland's Ekstraklasa: Both teams to score (-130) in the KS Girnik Zabrze-MKS Cracovia Krakow match. "These are two teams in Poland that last season absolutely dominated," he says. "These are teams that attacked constantly and teams that refused to defend. I looked at the player transfers, I looked at the lineup changes from last year, and both of these teams had the majority of their attacking players still available."
Jon's second play is in the UEFA Women's European Championship: Both teams to score in the Italy-Belgium match (3 p.m. ET). "This is a must-win game for both teams," he says. "There's no reason to do anything but attack for 90 minutes here. They've got to cover goal differential. High-scoring game."
Coach follows with two plays of his own. The first is in Mexico's Liga MX: Both teams to score in the Pachuca-Mazatlan match (8 p.m. ET). "Pachuca just scored twice against the best team in Mexico," he says. "They could score once tonight. These odds make no sense."
Next from Jonathan is an NFL futures play. He likes Over 10.5 wins (-130) for the Kansas City Chiefs. "How in the world are the Kansas City Chiefs just at 10.5?" he asks. "I wanted to get in right now, today, because that's going to go to 11, maybe 11.5."
Cimini wraps things up with a pair of plays in MLB. First, he likes Atlanta's Ronald Acuna Jr. (+600) to win the Home Run Derby (8 p.m. ET). "(In 2019), he had an opening-round 25 home runs," he says. "In the semifinal round, he lost to Pete Alonso by one home run. … He is matched up with Alonso in the opening round today. I think if he gets that win in the opening round, the path to victory is his."
Zack also likes Washington's Juan Soto (+600) to win the contest. "Last year, just 22 years old, he seemed like he was overwhelmed in the spotlight against (Shohei) Ohtani in the opening round," he says. "He only hit 11 home runs. I think getting that year in is going to help him here. Last night, his last at-bat in the eighth inning against the Atlanta Braves, he hit a home run."
