Today's picks: Why Georgia State will cover against Louisiana, plus more college basketball, NHL and NBA for Monday, March 7

The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Monday, March 7, on The Early Edge podcast

Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Chip Patterson, John Bollman and Larry Hartstein on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for college basketball, the NHL and the NBA for Monday, March 7.

Coach starts things off with two SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first, from Max Gorenstein, is Gonzaga (-13) to cover against San Francisco in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference tournament (9 p.m. ET). The second is in the NBA: The Pistons (+8) to cover against the Hawks (7 p.m. ET). "Very quietly, the Detroit Pistons have been covering lately," Coach says. "It's not pretty, it's not fun to watch, but the tickets are cashing."

Bollman is up next with an NHL pick. He likes the Blue Jackets (+180) against the Maple Leafs on the money line (7 p.m. ET). "The Blue Jackets have lost four of their last five games overall, but each of their last three losses have been against good teams and by just one goal," John says. "The Maple Leafs have lost two in a row and five of their last eight games, and they're worse on the road while the Jackets are better at home."

Patterson follows with a pair of plays in college basketball. The first is Georgia State (-3) to cover against Louisiana in the Sun Belt Conference title game (7 p.m. ET). "Georgia State in conference play has been the best defense in the Sun Belt. In particular, they are excellent at creating turnovers, at getting steals," he says. "Louisiana is one of the worst in the conference in terms of turning the ball over offensively. … I think the Panthers get another Sun Belt crown."

Chip also likes Over 148.5 in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinal game between Charleston and UNC Wilmington (8:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network). "UNC Wilmington was not an up-tempo team against most of the opponents on their schedule, except Charleston," he says. "(The Cougars) are one of the fastest teams in the entire country, and UNC Wilmington, when they played against Charleston, had 75 possessions - 164 points, 74 possessions - 164 points. They get caught up in Charleston's game."

Hartstein wraps things up with a college hoops futures pick. He is on Memphis at +400 to win the American Athletic Conference tournament. "They've won 10 of 11 games. The only loss in that span - at SMU at the end of a road trip. Almost nobody wins at SMU," Larry says. "Memphis has so much talent. Now, most of the talent is healthy, the rotation makes sense, the defense is unbelievable. You could throw out their season stats. This is a different team down the stretch."
