Today's picks: Why Braves will beat Red Sox, plus more MLB, NBA and NHL picks for Tuesday

SportsLine's experts share their best bets on the Early Edge podcast for Tuesday, May 25

By@SportsLineUpdated: May 25, 2021 3:24PM UTC . 3 min read

The Coach calls up his favorite handicappers, featured sports betting experts Mike McClure, Zack Cimini and Larry Hartstein on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get your top plays for MLB, the NBA and NHL for Tuesday, May 25.

The Coach provides information about upcoming Champions League and golf episodes. Mike then spotlights a unique storyline involving the starting pitchers and a pitching coach in the Cardinals-White Sox matchup. Larry explains the reasoning why the Suns are a seemingly disrespected underdog against the Lakers.

The SportsLine Plays of the Day from the site models and experts are then revealed by the Coach, leading with the NHL Playoff pick of the Predators and Hurricanes under 5.5 goals at 8 p.m. ET. The trends in the last seven games between the teams back this play up. The Mavericks are recommended as an NBA playoff selection at +6.5 over the Clippers at 10:30 p.m. ET.

One of Mike's featured MLB plays is the Braves -111 over the Red Sox at 7:10 p.m. ET, as Atlanta has Charlie Morton scheduled to take the mound at Fenway Park. "This is actually a decent park shift for him. We're usually thinking of Fenway being a hitter's paradise, but where the Braves play their games is the second-best hitting park in baseball," he says. "Now, you also give the Atlanta Braves offense, the No. 1 offense in MLB in xwOBA, the designated hitter there. Garrett Richards has a .331 actual and xwOBA. He's exactly who we think he is. But what scares me me for him is a .392 wOBA at home vs. .392 on the road. He is a much different pitcher at home and this will be a difficult spot for him." Mike is also on the White Sox -1.5 over the Cardinals at 8:10 p.m.ET. The advanced numbers point to a possible rough outing for Jack Flaherty, while Lucas Giolito should shine.

In the NBA playoffs, Zack is going with the Lakers -1.5 over the Suns at 10 p.m. ET, as he believes they will shed the offensive and free-throw issues from the series opener. He remains in Los Angeles for the MLB selection of the Dodgers -121 over the Astros at 8:10 p.m. ET, as he shares a Zack Greinke tendency that could doom him in a matchup with Clayton Kershaw.

Larry is on a 16-7 prop run, so you have to ride with his pick of Sandy Alcantara over 6.5 strikeouts in Phillies-Marlins at 6:40 p.m. ET. His NBA play is Evan Fournier over 3.5 rebounds in Celtics-Nets at 7:30 p.m. ET. Larry says he has found a great source for NBA info that supports his pick.
