SportsLine Subscribers, CBS Fantasy Telethon Help Raise Over $12,500 for St. Jude Children's Hospital
Fantasy football fans came out strong Monday to fight pediatric cancers.
Fantasy football fans responded in a big way Monday when CBS Sports aired its first Fantasy Football Today Telethon to benefit St. Jude Chldren's Research Hospital in Memphis, and SportsLine's subscribers helped in a major way.
The seven-hour Fantasy show, which aired on CBS Sports HQ and was distributed across a slew of CBS platforms, raised more than $12,500 to fight childhood cancers. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and this is the third straight year CBS has partnered with St. Jude in September to raise awareness of pediatric cancer.
SportsLine, CBS' site for Vegas expert picks, advanced computer projections and next-level Fantasy advice, was honored to participate in the telethon, and they had a significant impact on the results. In fact, SportsLine subscribers helped raise $5,000 toward the total, almost half of the funds given to St. Jude.
"We're so excited that the telethon raised over $12,500 in its first year," said Carleen O'Reilly of St. Jude. "As we shared during the broadcast, this donation could cover the cost of one day of inpatient care. The actual funds raised are used for the general operating needs of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food."
Led by the hosts of Fantasy Football Today, CBS' long-running, award-winning podcast and live-streaming show, the telethon featured former NFL players such as James Jones, LenDale White and Santana Moss answering fan phone calls live on air and offering Fantasy advice; a live fan draft at Buffalo Wild Wings; and, of course, Fantasy insight and banter from an army of CBS experts, including Jamey Eisenberg, Dave RIchard, Heath Cummings, Will Brinson, Pete Prisco, Jason La Canfora, Nick Kostos, Danny Kanell and Mike McClure.
