Red Sox vs. Cubs odds, picks: Advanced computer MLB model releases selections for Friday matchup

SportsLine's projection model generated selections for Friday's matchup between the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs

By@SportsLineUpdated: Jul 01, 2022 1:20PM UTC . 3 min read

The Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs face off at Wrigley Field at 2:20 p.m. ET on Friday. Boston is listed as a -135 favorite (risk $135 to win $100) at Caesars Sportsbook, while the Over-Under is set at nine (see up-to-date odds for every game this week on our MLB odds page).

Before making any Red Sox vs. Cubs picks, you NEED to check out the MLB predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times and it is off to a strong start to the 2022 season. It's on a 59-51 run on top-rated MLB money-line picks through 12 weeks. This is the same model that pegged the 2021 Atlanta Braves at 10-1 as one of three best bets to win it all last season. Anybody who has followed it has seen profitable returns.

The model knows the Red Sox are producing at a high level on offense. Boston is leading the American League in hits, doubles, batting average, and on-base percentage this season. The Red Sox are also in the top four of the AL in runs scored, slugging percentage, total bases and OPS. The centerpiece of that attack is Rafael Devers, and the All-Star third baseman leads the AL in doubles, hits, and total bases this season, to go along with 17 home runs and a .600 slugging percentage.

The model also knows the Cubs have notable offensive strengths, posting above-average marks in doubles, triples, stolen bases, and walks. Chicago also has a potential pitching advantage behind the arm of Adrian Sampson. He has a 2.54 ERA in 46 innings over the last two seasons, allowing only 2.0 walks per nine innings in that sample. Sampson also has a 1.69 ERA this season and the benefit of home-field advantage.

Now, it has set its sights on Red Sox vs. Cubs. We can tell you the model is leaning over the total, and it also says one team has ALL the value! You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any MLB picks.
