The Boston Red Sox begin life without Xander Bogaerts when they host the American League East-rival Baltimore Orioles in the 2023 MLB season opener for both teams on Thursday. Bogaerts, who was a four-time All-Star and won two World Series titles while spending the first 10 years of his career with Boston, opted out of his contract in November and signed a massive 11-year contract with San Diego a month later. The Red Sox occupied the AL East basement last season with a 78-84 record while Baltimore finished above .500 for the first time in six years at 83-79.

First pitch at Fenway Park is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET. Boston is listed as a -125 favorite (risk $125 to win $100) on the money line in the latest Red Sox vs. Orioles odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over/under for total runs scored is 8.5 (see the latest lines for every game on our MLB odds page).

Before making any Orioles vs. Red Sox picks, you NEED to see the latest MLB predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

This model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times. It went 331-285 on top-rated MLB money-line picks (+357) over the past two seasons, and it finished the 2022 MLB season on a 20-14 roll. Anybody who has followed it has seen profitable returns!

The model knows Boston finished with a losing record for the first time in six full campaigns but still won the season series with the Orioles, going 10-9 overall and 6-4 at home. The Red Sox will miss Bogaerts' offensive production, but they still have one of the most feared hitters in the game in Rafael Devers, who has recorded more than 30 home runs and 110 RBI twice in the last three full seasons. Boston also added several key players to the lineup during the offseason, including 2017 NLCS MVP Justin Turner, 2021 NL RBI leader Adam Duvall and Masataka Yoshida, a two-time batting champion in Japan's Pacific League.

The model also knows Baltimore got off to a rough start in 2022 but began to turn things around in July with a 10-game winning streak and finished three games behind Tampa Bay for the final AL wild-card spot. The Orioles own the third-best Opening Day winning percentage of all time. They are 71-49-1 in openers since the franchise debuted in 1901 and won eight consecutive Opening Day games from 2011-18. Outfielder Anthony Santander is coming off the best season of his career, a 33-homer and 89-RBI effort. Promising young catcher Adley Rutschman, who had a solid rookie year in 2022, batted .310 with four blasts and a 1.015 OPS during spring training.

Now, it has set its sights on Red Sox vs. Orioles. We can tell you the model is projecting 9.4 total runs, and it also says one side of the money line has ALL the value! You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any MLB picks of your own.
