NFL Week 8 power rankings: Chiefs fall out of top 10, plus futures odds, sim projections for all 32 teams

With Week 7 in the books, the SportsLine Projection Model has simulated the season 10,000 times and has some surprising futures projections.

If you haven't started panicking about the Kansas City Chiefs, now's probably a good time. Last year's Super Bowl runners-up have had issues on the defensive side of the ball all season, but in Week 7 they could get nothing done on offense either, scoring just three points against a Titans defense that had trouble stopping Zach Wilson and the New York Jets a few weeks prior.

The awful performance has CBS Sports senior NFL writer Pete Prisco dropping Kansas City all the way down to No. 17 in his power rankings. And while the SportsLine power rankings don't go that far, the Chiefs are out of our top 10 for the first time in what feels like forever.

Updated NFL futures odds from Caesars Sportsbook make the Chiefs the eighth-favorite to win the Super Bowl at +1300, and they're +230 to win the AFC West alone. Bettors who think the Chiefs will miss the playoffs after their stunning loss can get +170 on that wager.

As for the Super Bowl favorites, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers check in with the shortest odds at +500 after another dominant win against the Chicago Bears. The Buffalo Bills are next at +550, followed by the Los Angeles Rams at +850. The undefeated Arizona Cardinals are fourth at +900 ahead of the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens, who are each at +1100. The last team ahead of the Chiefs is the Dallas Cowboys at +1200. While the Cincinnati Bengals would be the No. 1 seed in the AFC if the playoffs started today, they're just +3500 to win the Super Bowl after seven weeks.

Before you place any futures bets on who wins the Super Bowl and each conference or division, you need to see what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say.

The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up almost $7,700 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception six-plus years ago. The model enters Week 8 of the 2021 season on an incredible 126-85 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season.

The model also ranked in the top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past five years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94 percent of CBS Sports Football Pick'em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is WAY UP.

Below, you can find the power ranking for all 32 teams based on the model's "neutral sim%," which is calculated based on the number of simulations they win playing healthy (in February) vs. every other team on a neutral field. You'll also find the simulation's projection for how often each team wins their division, conference and the Super Bowl, compared to the current available odds, along with notes from the model's creator, Stephen Oh.

Which team with a losing record is shockingly just outside the top five? And how far did the Chiefs fall after their offensive dud? ... Join SportsLine right now to see Week 8 power rankings from the proven NFL model which has delivered consistent positive value on its picks!
