While the Christmas slate didn't provide the most aesthetically pleasing experience with each home team starting its third-string quarterback, it certainly provided games that stayed competitive throughout. The Vikings managed to eliminate the Lions from the playoff hunt despite starting Max Brosmer, and the other two underdogs covered the closing spread. Backup QBs will square off again on Saturday night in a game with major playoff implications, as the Packers could eliminate the Ravens from the playoffs while staying alive for the NFC North crown.
I would've liked to put the Packers and Browns (who could face a Steelers team resting players if Green Bay wins) together in my best bets for this column, but the Circa Million put the spread of each game at three, and that's not a number we should be looking to play in a contest where you need to win more than 60% of your picks to cash. Essentially, I treat pushes as losses in the contest and will only play a three if I think the line is so far off that it won't matter.
